Ennui

I'm so bored I sat down to figure out how much time it would take for Gmail storage space per user to reach 3GB. Currently it's ticking at about 3.25bytes/sec. In other words, every second 3.25 bytes of storage space is added to every account. Now, at this rate there are roughly 2715MB of storage, already a considerable amount. However, at the rate it's going, it will take roughly 2.78 years (2 years, 9 months, and 11 days, give or take a day or three, or sometime around end of January, 2009) to reach 3GB of storage space. Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if this rate actually accelerates before that time is up, esp. given the ever-decreasing cost of storage technologies. Aren't we supposed to get 9GB flashdrives soon? Mind you this lurch forward in flash-disk storage is a direct result of the consumer-craze over iPods in the last couple of years.
